Why water access matters to horses?

Water is critical to a horse's digestion, metabolism and temperature regulation. Horses need 2–3 times more water than dry matter, typically 18–40 litres a day, more in hot weather or after hard work.

Restricted or interrupted access is a real risk, not just an inconvenience. Dehydration is a known trigger for colic and impaction, and the danger doesn't disappear in winter as frozen pipes and iced-over troughs catch out yards every year. Clean, unlimited water needs to be available year-round, whatever the weather.

This is also why manual top-ups aren't a reliable long-term solution: missed refills, busy yards, and holiday cover all create gaps. An automatic or gravity-fed system removes that risk entirely.

Choosing your water drinker system:

Individual drinkers:

Best for: individual horses in stables

How they work: valve operated so water refills automatically as the horse drinks

Compact, easy-clean bowls designed for one horse at a time. Float valves keep the bowl topped up without any manual intervention, and smooth coated surfaces with drain plugs make routine cleaning quick.

Field and Turnout Troughs:

Best for: small to large groups

How they work: float valve and manual refill options

Horses have constant access to water. Range includes heavy-duty plastic or stainless steel, with optional insulation, heating elements and thermostats for winter reliability.
